36 Things I’m Old Enough to Remember

Aging. I’m not ok with it, no. Since time moves in one direction, I’m kinda stuck with it.

I’m within 7 days of my 36th birthday. Naturally, it’s time to reflect on how old that really is.

To celebrate, here’s a list of 36 things I’m old enough to remember:

  1. Pogo Balls
  2. MS-DOS
  3. Hearing the static before the music came on while listening to a cassette tape
  4. Recording 2-1/2 movies on one VHS tape and VCRS
  5. “I know you are, but what am I?”
  6. Ending an insult with “Your whole generation!” after somebody insulted your whole family
  7. Skinny 2 liter soda bottles
  8. Pay Phones
  9. Corduroy pants
  10. Home phones and long distance carriers
  11. The Candy Lady
  12. Cursive writing
  13. When some cars got the gas put in the back, behind the license plate
  14. The car ignition key was separate from the door/trunk key
  15. Getting big truck drivers to blow their horn
  16. Recording songs from the radio
  17. Listening to the radio from your alarm clock
  18. Alarm clocks
  19. One best friend, not 12
  20. Collecting 40 ounce bottle caps with the puzzles
  21. Double Dutch
  22. Looney Tunes
  23. Slingshots
  24. Encyclopedias
  25. Roller skates
  26. Pencil break
  27. Thump
  28. Laffy Taffy with jokes in the wrapper
  29. “Skins” – what the hell is a pork rind?
  30. Crunch Berries were red only
  31. Trix were all round
  32. Paper air planes
  33. Handwritten letters
  34. Giant cable box remotes
  35. Saying “Bloody Mary” in the mirror
  36. Connecting Nintendo and Super NES through RF Modulator – channel 3 or 4 on the TV

I’ve been around a while. In Psychology, they teach you this age is considered young adulthood.

Shut up, Psychology.

Damn – I meant to end this with some positive examples of my greater cognitive aptitude with having reached this age.

Shut that sh*t up too.
